The main goal of the rehabilitation of Manuela Machado Municipal Stadium, located in Viana do Castelo, was the improvement of the athletics track that was evidencing pathologies of degradation, due to years of intense use, either by local athletes or by athletes from the neighbouring municipalities. With this intervention, the complex also acquired new valences as the launching and jumping area.
This is a tribute to the athlete Manuela Machado, born in Viana do Castelo and a national reference in athletics, recognized for the results obtained representing Portugal with emphasis on the European and world marathon titles.
